Inline Skating Summer Programs

Summer Skating Club

We will be again running our summer club program. A great way to stay in shape and have fun. This is the perfect cross trainer for minor hockey players. Inlines are heavier and harder to push than ice skates. There is also less glide so the skater mush push harder and more often to maintain speed. All this produces a skater with more power and endurance. Proper skating technique is also an important part of the program. No matter how strong a skater is if they can't transfer their power to the surface "efficiently" they will continue to chase the competiton. Learn the ABC's of inline skating at Canada's #1 inline skating facility from Canada's World Team coach Alex Perrie. Skaters of all ages and abilities are welcome. Classes start May 6th and run through until September. Classes run Wednesday nights from 6-8pm and on most Saturdays from 9-noon. Cost $125/ skater. Family discounts are available. What do I need? A bike helmet, wrist/knee and elbow pads

What is Spinning

Spinning is an aerobic exercise that you do on a specially designed stationary bicycle called a spinning bike. This bike is unique because the wheel is very heavy. The mass of this balanced wheel simulates actual riding much better than a conventional lightweight exercise bike wheel. As with most exercise bikes the resistance on the front wheel can be adjusted to simulate varying terrain. At the Canadian Inline Training Centre the instructor talks you through a visualisation of an outdoor cycling workout while motivational music plays in the background. You might hear, 'You're going up a steep hill now, so don’t give up’ during a tough part of the workout, and then, ‘You made it. Enjoy the downhill ride’ during the less strenuous part of the class. The pace varies throughout the workout — sometimes you’re pedalling as fast as you can (low resistance, high crank speed simulates a downhill run) other times you increase the resistance and pedal slowly from a standing position (simulating a hill climb). This helps you to focus inwardly and work on your mind as well as your body

Why we love it: Spinning burns serious calories (about 450 in 45 minutes) and offers an excellent aerobic workout that makes your heart pump fast. It also tones your quadriceps (the ones on the front of your thighs) and outer thigh muscles. Because you stay in one place with the same basic movement throughout, spinning doesn't involve a lot of co-ordination. You are in complete control of your pace. You can adjust the intensity of your spinning session simply by adjusting your pace or the tension knob on the bike.
